গাজীপুর মহানগরের হারবাইদ পূর্বপাড়া গ্রামে একটি বাড়ি নির্মাণ করছিলেন ঢাকা পলিটেকনিক ইনস্টিটিউটে পড়ুয়া ইমতিয়াজ উদ্দিন আহমেদ ইফতি। পড়াশোনায় ব্যস্ত থাকায় ইফতি তাঁর বাড়ি নির্মাণের দায়িত্ব দেন মামাকে। নির্মাণের মাঝপথে এসে ইফতির মামার কাছে চাঁদা দাবি করে দুর্বৃত্তরা। চাঁদা না পেয়ে ইফতিকে হত্যার পরিকল্পনা করে তারা। গ্রামের বাড়িতে রাতে ঘুমিয়ে ছিলেন ইফতি। এই সুযোগে তাঁকে গলা কেটে হত্যা করে দুর্বৃত্তরা। ঘটনার ৫ বছর পর পুলিশ ব্যুরো অব ইনভেস্টিগেশনের (পিবিআই) তদন্তে উন্মোচন হয়েছে ইফতি হত্যারহস্য। 

মঙ্গলবার বিকেলে পিবিআইয়ের গাজীপুর জেলা পুলিশ সুপার মোহাম্মদ মাকছুদের রহমান জানান, দীর্ঘ তদন্ত শেষে ইফতি হত্যার সঙ্গে জড়িত মৃদুল হাসান ও ফরিদ আহমেদ নামে দু’জনকে রোববার সন্ধ্যায় গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। গত সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় আদালতে হাজির করা হলে ইফতি হত্যার লোমহর্ষক বর্ণনা দিয়ে তারা স্বীকারোক্তিমূলক জবানবন্দি দেয়।

গাজীপুর মহানগরের পুবাইল থানার হারবাইদ পূর্বপাড়া গ্রামের শামসুদ্দিন আহমেদ মারা যাবার পর সংসারের দায়িত্ব পালন করছিলেন তাঁর ছেলে ইফতি। বাবার রেখে যাওয়া জমির ওপর একটি বাড়ি নির্মাণ শুরু করেন তিনি। নির্মাণকাজের দেখভাল করেন তাঁর মামা মিজানুর রহমান।

পিবিআই জানায়, স্বীকারোক্তিমূলক জবানবন্দিতে মৃদুল ও ফরিদ জানিয়েছে, ঘটনার কয়েকদিন আগে ইফতির মামার কাছে তারা চাঁদা দাবি করেছিল। চাঁদা দিতে অস্বীকার করলে তারা হুমকি দিয়ে চলে যায়। এরই মধ্যে ঢাকা থেকে বাড়িতে এসে নির্মাণাধীন ভবনেই রাতে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েন ইফতি। ২০১৮ সালের ১৯ অক্টোবর রাতের কোনো এক সময় তারা ওই বাড়িতে গিয়ে ঘুমন্ত ইফতির গলায় ছুরি চালায়। মৃত্যু নিশ্চিত করে তারা তাঁর মোবাইল সেট নিয়ে পালিয়ে যায়। পরদিন সকালে পুলিশ লাশ উদ্ধার করে মর্গে পাঠায়।

নিহত ইফতির মামা মিজান অজ্ঞাত ব্যক্তিদের আসামি করে পুবাইল থানায় মামলা করেন। থানা পুলিশ মামলাটি তদন্ত করে রহস্য উদ্ঘাটন করতে না পারায় পুলিশ সদরদপ্তর থেকে পিবিআইকে মামলাটি তদন্তের নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়। পিবিআই গোয়েন্দা তথ্য ও আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহার করে তথ্য উপাত্ত বিশ্লেষণ করে জামালপুরের মেলান্দহ থানার উত্তর আদিপুত গ্রামের মৃত আলাউদ্দিনের ছেলে মৃদুল হাসান ও টঙ্গী পূর্ব থানাধীন শিলমুন মণ্ডলবাড়ী এলাকার আবুল কাশেমের ছেলে ফরিদ আহমেদকে ঢাকা ও টঙ্গী থেকে গ্রেপ্তার করে।

Harirampur Upazila Land Officer Tapsi Rabeya said that after receiving information about illegal sand extraction in the Padma in Dholshura Union of Harirampur Upazila, she went to the area on Tuesday afternoon to conduct a mobile court. At that time, three police members and an Ansar member were with her. After going to the spot, a bulkhead was seized for illegally extracting sand in the Padma. At that time, the sand extractors cleverly tied her speedboat to the bulkhead and took it to the borders of Dohar Upazila. Then, about 15 people came on behalf of the sand extractors in a speedboat. After a while, another 100 to 150 people came in a trawler. They forcibly took the speedboat carrying her towards Dohar. At that time, she informed the Manikganj Deputy Commissioner about the matter. When her speedboat reached Moinat Ghat in Dohar Upazila, Dohar Upazila Assistant Land Officer SM Mustafizur Rahman arrived at the spot. He handed over the seized bulkhead to the Doha Upazila Land Officer and returned to Harirampur by river.

Tapsi Rabeya further said that she went to conduct a mobile court against illegal sand mining in the Padma on the borders of Manikganj after seeing Google Maps. But sand pirates from Doha area were coming to the borders of Manikganj and mining sand. After investigating, she found out that her speedboat was taken hostage and taken to Doha area under the leadership of sand pirates Muttar and Shahid from Doha area. Although no legal action was taken regarding the matter, she informed her superiors.

Dohar Upazila Assistant Land Officer SM Mustafizur Rahman said that he was informed by Dohar UNO that Harirampur Assistant Land Officer Tapsi Rabeya was facing problems while conducting a mobile court to stop illegal sand mining in the Padma. On the instructions of the UNO, he went to Moinat Ghat in Dohar Upazila and found Tapsi Rabeya. After talking to the local people, arrangements were made for the officer to go to his home upazila. The seized bulkhead has been kept at Moinat Ghat. Action will be taken after the instructions of higher officials.

A madrasa student (13) has been accused of sexually assaulting a student in Bauphal, Patuakhali. He died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital around 8:30 pm on Friday.

However, the student's father said that his son died as a result of sexual abuse. He demanded justice for the madrasa director in the incident.

The deceased student was a student of the Hefz department of Madinatul Uloom Qawmia Hafezia Noorani Kindergarten Madrasa and Orphanage in Nazirpur Tanterkathi Union.

Locals said that when news of the boy's death spread, the accused, Selim Gazi, closed the madrasa and fled.

The boy's family said that after admission, he was sexually abused by the madrasa director Hafez Selim Gazi in various ways. He fell ill two weeks ago. Later, he was treated locally and admitted to the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.

The boy's father said that before his death, his son told him, 'Hafez Selim Gazi used to adore him very much since he was admitted. Later, the director kept him with him and sexually abused him almost every day.' He forbade anyone to say anything about this and threatened to kill his son. When the boy wanted to come home, Selim would bring him. He would leave him with his parents and grandfather for 10 to 15 minutes and then bring him back with him. He said, 'We gave our son to be trained as a Hafez in good faith. But the animal killed my father.' He cried, wanting justice for this.

Attempts were made to contact accused Selim Gazi on his mobile phone to discuss the matter, but his statement could not be taken as the phone was switched off.

Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arichul Haque said that after learning about the matter, a GD was filed at the police station and the body was recovered. The body has been sent to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy. However, the madrasa director Selim has closed the institution and fled, the OC said.

A hole has appeared in the narrow bridge built over a canal south of Taratia Bazar on the Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara road. Vehicles are taking risks every day to cross the bridge as there is no alternative road. Locals are demanding that the broken bridge be removed immediately and a wide bridge suitable for the road be constructed.

Abdul Hai Sarkar of Sanandbari Mugirchar said, Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara is the only road for the movement of lakhs of people in the northern region. Hundreds of vehicles are plying across the broken bridge built on this road every day. On one side, the bridge is not wide, and on the other side, there is a hole in the middle. It is difficult to say when an accident will happen.

Abul Kalam of Taratia Mandalpara said that despite knowing the matter, the authorities are not taking any initiative to repair the broken part of the bridge or build a new bridge. The matter is regrettable. He demanded the construction of a wide bridge suitable for the road at that place and the speedy repair of the broken bridge.

According to Nazrul Islam of Katharbil Sapmari village, the bridges built on the Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara road are narrow and old. Earlier, there were holes in the bridge built over the Katharbil Maharani Canal and the bridge near Porarvita. However, the authorities have repaired the broken parts of the two bridges with cement and sand. Even then, the level of risk has not ended. The two bridges have become weak and could collapse at any time.

Truck driver Abdus Sabur said that a hole appeared in the middle of the bridge a long time ago. It is scary to climb on the broken bridge. It is difficult to say when the bridge will collapse. Since there is no alternative road, one has to take risks while crossing it. The risk level is higher for large vehicles. When a truck loaded with goods crosses the bridge, it becomes like a twisted rope.

Parramrampur UP Chairman Selim Mia JK has demanded immediate renovation of the bridge or construction of a wide bridge suitable for roads.
