A madrasa student (13) has been accused of sexually assaulting a student in Bauphal, Patuakhali. He died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital around 8:30 pm on Friday.

However, the student's father said that his son died as a result of sexual abuse. He demanded justice for the madrasa director in the incident.

The deceased student was a student of the Hefz department of Madinatul Uloom Qawmia Hafezia Noorani Kindergarten Madrasa and Orphanage in Nazirpur Tanterkathi Union.

Locals said that when news of the boy's death spread, the accused, Selim Gazi, closed the madrasa and fled.

The boy's family said that after admission, he was sexually abused by the madrasa director Hafez Selim Gazi in various ways. He fell ill two weeks ago. Later, he was treated locally and admitted to the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.

The boy's father said that before his death, his son told him, 'Hafez Selim Gazi used to adore him very much since he was admitted. Later, the director kept him with him and sexually abused him almost every day.' He forbade anyone to say anything about this and threatened to kill his son. When the boy wanted to come home, Selim would bring him. He would leave him with his parents and grandfather for 10 to 15 minutes and then bring him back with him. He said, 'We gave our son to be trained as a Hafez in good faith. But the animal killed my father.' He cried, wanting justice for this.

Attempts were made to contact accused Selim Gazi on his mobile phone to discuss the matter, but his statement could not be taken as the phone was switched off.

Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arichul Haque said that after learning about the matter, a GD was filed at the police station and the body was recovered. The body has been sent to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy. However, the madrasa director Selim has closed the institution and fled, the OC said.

A hole has appeared in the narrow bridge built over a canal south of Taratia Bazar on the Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara road. Vehicles are taking risks every day to cross the bridge as there is no alternative road. Locals are demanding that the broken bridge be removed immediately and a wide bridge suitable for the road be constructed.

People from Rajibpur and Roumari upazilas, including three unions north of Dewanganj city - Dangdhara, Charamkhawa, Parramrampur - cross the broken bridge every day. The bridge is located on the only road they can use in Dewanganj city. Although there is an alternative route to Jamalpur district town, the distance is longer. Due to this, they have to take risks while traveling over the broken bridge to Jamalpur and Dewanganj cities.
Abdul Hai Sarkar of Sanandbari Mugirchar said, Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara is the only road for the movement of lakhs of people in the northern region. Hundreds of vehicles are plying across the broken bridge built on this road every day. On one side, the bridge is not wide, and on the other side, there is a hole in the middle. It is difficult to say when an accident will happen.

Abul Kalam of Taratia Mandalpara said that despite knowing the matter, the authorities are not taking any initiative to repair the broken part of the bridge or build a new bridge. The matter is regrettable. He demanded the construction of a wide bridge suitable for the road at that place and the speedy repair of the broken bridge.

According to Nazrul Islam of Katharbil Sapmari village, the bridges built on the Dewanganj-Sanandbari-Danghara road are narrow and old. Earlier, there were holes in the bridge built over the Katharbil Maharani Canal and the bridge near Porarvita. However, the authorities have repaired the broken parts of the two bridges with cement and sand. Even then, the level of risk has not ended. The two bridges have become weak and could collapse at any time.

Truck driver Abdus Sabur said that a hole appeared in the middle of the bridge a long time ago. It is scary to climb on the broken bridge. It is difficult to say when the bridge will collapse. Since there is no alternative road, one has to take risks while crossing it. The risk level is higher for large vehicles. When a truck loaded with goods crosses the bridge, it becomes like a twisted rope.

Parramrampur UP Chairman Selim Mia JK has demanded immediate renovation of the bridge or construction of a wide bridge suitable for roads.

The matter was discussed with Engineer Tofail Ahmed of Dewanganj Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LDED). He said that he is aware of the hole in the bridge. It will be repaired very soon.

দাম্পত্য কলহের জেরে স্বামীকে শ্বাসরোধ করে হত্যার অভিযোগে স্ত্রীকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে র‌্যাব। বৃহস্পতিবার মধ্যরাতে মিরসরাই থানার মিঠাছড়া এলাকা থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়।

গ্রেপ্তার নারীর নাম রুমি আক্তার (২৫)। তিনি কক্সবাজারের পেকুয়া থানার বাজারপাড়া গ্রামের মৃত মো. তাজুর মেয়ে।

র‌্যাব জানায়, দেড়বছর আগে একই এলাকার মো. রিদুয়ানের সঙ্গে রুমির বিয়ে হয়। বিয়ের পর অন্য পুরুষের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কে জড়িয়ে পড়েন রুমি। এ নিয়ে স্বামীর সঙ্গে তার কলহ লেগে থাকতো। গত ২৮ আগস্ট একটি হত্যা মামলায় গ্রেপ্তার হন রুমি। গত ১৭ অক্টোবর জামিনে বেরিয়ে আসেন। কারাগার থেকে বেরিয়ে আসার পর আবারও বিবাহ বহির্ভূত সম্পর্ক নিয়ে স্বামী-স্ত্রীর মধ্যে বিবাদ হয়। এর জেরে গত ২৭ ডিসেম্বর রাতে স্বামী রিদুয়ানকে শ্বাসরোধ করে হত্যা করে কম্বল দিয়ে ঢেকে রেখে ঘরে তালা দিয়ে পালিয়ে যান তিনি। পরদিন রিদুয়ানের পরিবারের সদস্যরা থাকে মৃত অবস্থায় উদ্ধার করেন। এ ঘটনায় রিদুয়ানের ভাই বাদী হয়ে পেকুয়া থানায় মামলা দায়ের করেন।

র‌্যাব-৭ সিনিয়র সহকারী পরিচালক নূরুল আবছার বলেন, ‘মামলার একমাত্র আসামি রুমি আক্তারকে গ্রেপ্তারে গোয়েন্দা তৎপরতা ও ছায়া তদন্ত অব্যাহত রাখে র‌্যাব। নজরদারির একপর্যায়ে র‌্যাব জানতে পারে আসামি মিঠাছড়া এলাকায় একটা বাসায় অবস্থান করছেন। অভিযান চালিয়ে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। সে প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে দাম্পত্য কলহের জেরে স্বামীকে শ্বাসরোধে হত্যার কথা স্বীকার করেছে। তাকে পেকুয়া থানায় হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।’

সুনামগঞ্জের তাহিরপুরের বড়ছড়া সীমান্তে বিএসএফের গুলিতে এক বাংলাদেশি আহত হয়েছেন। শুক্রবার দুপুরে উপজেলার উত্তর শ্রীপুর ইউনিয়নের বুরুংগাছড়া গ্রামের সীমান্তে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। আহত ব্যক্তি বুরুংগাছড়া গ্রামের মো. রাশেদ মিয়ার ছেলে মো. দেলোয়ার হোসেন।

জানা যায়, শুক্রবার দুপুরে তাহিরপুরের উত্তর শ্রীপুর ইউনিয়নের বুরুংগাছড়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা হনুফা বেগম সীমান্তের শূন্যরেখা বরাবর পাহাড়ি ছড়ায় গোসল করতে যান। এ নিয়ে বড়ছড়া বিওপির বিজিবি সদস্যদের সঙ্গে হনুফা বেগমের কথা কাটাকাটি হয়। একপর্যায়ে ঘটনাস্থলে বিএসএফের টহলরত এক সদস্য এসে উপস্থিত হন এবং তিনি মহিলাকে লাঠি দিয়ে আঘাত করেন। এ ঘটনায় গ্রামের বাসিন্দারা বিএসএফ সদস্যদের লক্ষ্য করে ইটপাটকেল ছুড়তে থাকেন। বিএসএফের সদস্যরাও বাংলাদেশি নাগরিকদের ধাওয়া করেন। পরে বিএসএফ সদস্যরা বাংলাদেশের ৫০ গজ ভেতরে এসে তিন রাউন্ড ছড়া গুলি ছোড়ে। এতে বুরুংগাছড়া গ্রামের মো. রাশেদ মিয়ার ছেলে মো. দেলোয়ার হোসেনের শরীরে গুলি লাগে। তাঁকে চিকিৎসার জন্য সিলেট ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে এবং আহত হনুফা বেগমকে সুনামগঞ্জ সদর হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।

সুনামগঞ্জ-২৮ বিজিবির পরিচালক মো. মাহবুবুর রহমান (পিবিজিএম) জানান, গুলিবিদ্ধ আহত ব্যক্তিকে প্রথমে সুনামগঞ্জ সদর হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়, অবস্থার অবনতি হওয়ায় পরে তাঁকে সিলেট ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়।

এদিকে তাৎক্ষণিক বড়ছড়া শুল্ক্ক স্টেশনের জিরো পয়েন্টে বিজিবি ও বিএসএফের মধ্যে কোম্পানি কমান্ডার পর্যায়ে পতাকা বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। পতাকা বৈঠকে বিজিবির পক্ষে নেতৃত্ব দেন টেকেরঘাট কোম্পানি কমান্ডার সুবেদার জাফর আহমদ ও ভারতের বিএসএফের পক্ষে নেতৃত্ব দেন শিলং ১৯৩ ব্যাটালিয়নের বড়ছড়া বিএসএফের বড়ছড়া কোম্পানি কমান্ডার দিলীপ সিং। দুই দেশের মধ্যে ১৫ মিনিটব্যাপী পতাকা বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। পতাকা বৈঠকে ঘটনার বিষয়টি বিএসএফ প্রথমে অস্বীকার করে। পরে বিজিবির পক্ষ থেকে ঘটনা ও আহতদের ছবি দেখালে বিএসএফের পক্ষে থেকে বলা হয় ঘটনা ঘটতেও পারে। তবে আগামীকাল (শনিবার) ঘটনাস্থল বিএসএফ পরিদর্শন করে পরবর্তী সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হবে বলে জানানো হয়।

অপর দিকে তাৎক্ষণিক ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেন সুনামগঞ্জ জেলা পুলিশের সহকারী পুলিশ সুপার (তাহিরপুর সার্কেল) মো. সাহিদুর রহমান, তাহিরপুর থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ সৈয়দ ইফতেখার হোসেন প্রমুখ।

সিলেটের কোম্পানীগঞ্জ উপজেলায় মোটরসাইকেল চালকে গুলি করেছে দুর্বৃত্তরা। এতে চালক গুলিবিদ্ধসহ আহত হয়েছেন দুইজন।

আজ মঙ্গলবার রাত ৮টার দিকে কোম্পানীগঞ্জের পূর্ব ইসলামপুর ইউনিয়নের ঢালারপাড় ও গাছঘর গ্রামের মধ্যবর্তী মুলুক নগর এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে।

আহতরা হলেন, উপজেলার পূর্ব ইসলামপুর ইউনিয়নের খায়েরগাঁও গ্রামের মৃত লাল মিয়ার ছেলে মোটরসাইকেল চালক সাদ্দাম হোসেন (৩২) ও একই গ্রামের মৃত মতি মিয়ার ছেলে নজির মিয়া (৩৪)।

আহত সাদ্দাম হোসেনের স্বজন সাদেক মিয়া জানান, আহতদের স্থানীয়রা উদ্ধার করে প্রথমে কোম্পানীগঞ্জ উপজেলা হাসপাতালে ও পরে সিলেট এমএজি ওসমানী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করে।

আহত নজির জানান, তারা মোটরসাইকেলে যাত্রী বহন করেন। রাতে বাড়ি ফেরার পথে একদল লোক পথরোধ করে মোটরসাইকেল ডাকাতির চেষ্টা করে। বাধা দিলে তারা গুলি করে ও তাকে ছুরিকাঘাত করে।

কোম্পানীগঞ্জ থানার ওসি সুকান্ত চক্রবর্তী জানিয়েছেন, ঘটনার খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ সেখানে গেছে। সড়ক ব‍্যবহার নিয়ে চালকদের মধ্যে ঝামেলা রয়েছে। সেই বিরোধ থেকে নাকি অন্য কারণে ঘটনা ঘটেছে তা খতিয়ে দেখা হচ্ছে। গুলি বর্ষণের সত‍্যতা জানার চেষ্টা চলছে।

বাঘ গুনতে সুন্দরবনে বসছে ক্যামেরা। বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে বড় ম্যানগ্রোভ বনে চারটি রেঞ্জের ৬৬৫ পয়েন্টে বসানো হচ্ছে দুটি করে ক্যামেরা। কোনো বাঘ, হরিণ, শূকর বা অন্য কোনো প্রাণী ক্যামেরার সামনে দিয়ে গেলে সেই ছবি ও ১০ সেকেন্ডের ভিডিও ধারণ হবে স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে। বাঘশুমারির সব তথ্য প্রকাশ করা হবে আগামী বছরের জুনে।

সুন্দরবনের কালাবগি এলাকায় রোববার ট্র্যাপিং পদ্ধতিতে বাঘগণনার কার্যক্রম উদ্বোধন করা হয়েছে। পরিবেশ ও বন উপমন্ত্রী বেগম হাবিবুন নাহার কার্যক্রমের উদ্বোধন করতে গিয়ে বলেন, বনের জীববৈচিত্র্য রক্ষায় বাঘ সংরক্ষণ জরুরি। বাঘের সংখ্যা এবং বর্তমান অবস্থা জানার জন্য শুমারি হচ্ছে।

উদ্বোধনের পর সুন্দরবনের সাতক্ষীরা রেঞ্জের হলদিবুনিয়া এলাকা থেকে ক্যামেরা স্থাপন শুরু হয়। প্রথম ধাপে আগামী এপ্রিল পর্যন্ত সাতক্ষীরা ও শরণখোলা রেঞ্জে শুমারি করা হবে। এরপর নভেম্বর থেকে চার মাস শরণখোলা ও চাঁদপাই রেঞ্জে করা হবে শুমারি। মোট ৬৬৫টি গ্রিড বা পয়েন্টে ক্যামেরা বসানো হচ্ছে। বনের গাছের সঙ্গে মাটি থেকে ৫০ সেন্টিমিটার ওপরে ক্যামেরা স্থাপন করা হচ্ছে। প্রতিটি পয়েন্টে দুটি করে ক্যামেরা থাকবে ৪০ দিন। ১৫ দিন পরপর ক্যামেরার ব্যাটারি ও মেমোরি কার্ড পরিবর্তন করা হবে।

বাঘ সংরক্ষণ প্রকল্প পরিচালক ও সুন্দরবন পশ্চিম বন বিভাগের বিভাগীয় কর্মকর্তা আবু নাসের মো. মোহসিন হোসেন জানান, গত ১৫ ডিসেম্বর থেকে কালাবগি ফরেন ফাউন্ডেশনের আওতাধীন খালগুলোর দুই পাশে জরিপ করে বাঘের গতিবিধি ও পায়ের ছাপ লক্ষ্য করার কাজ চলছে। এই খাল সার্ভের মাধ্যমে বাঘের পাগমার্ক বা পায়ের ছাপ দেখা হবে গোটা সুন্দরবনে। ক্যামেরা ট্র্যাপিং ও খাল সার্ভের কাজ সম্পন্ন হলে সব তথ্য-উপাত্ত ঢাকায় বন বিভাগের রিসোর্স ইনফরমেশন ম্যানেজমেন্ট সিস্টেম ইউনিটে পাঠানো হবে। সেখানে পর্যালোচনার পর ২০২৪ সালের জুনে বাঘশুমারির ফল ঘোষণা করা হবে।

বন বিভাগ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বাঘের হালনাগাদ তথ্য সংগ্রহ ও বাঘ সংরক্ষণের জন্য পরিবেশ, বন ও জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনবিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় গত ২৩ মার্চ ‘সুন্দরবনের বাঘ সংরক্ষণ প্রকল্পের অনুমোদন দেয়। প্রকল্পের মোট ব্যয় ৩৫ কোটি ৯৩ লাখ ৮০ হাজার টাকা। এর মধ্যে শুধু বাঘশুমারি খাতে ব্যয় ধরা হয়েছে ৩ কোটি ২১ লাখ টাকা। প্রকল্পটির মেয়াদ ২০২৫ সালের মার্চ পর্যন্ত। শুমারির জন্য সম্প্রতি দুই কিস্তিতে এক কোটি ২১ লাখ টাকা বরাদ্দ পেয়েছে বন বিভাগ।

প্রকল্প পরিচালক জানান, সুন্দরবনের অভয়ারণ্য ও অভয়ারণ্য এলাকার বাইরে শুমারি করা হবে। বনের কম লবণাক্ত, মধ্যম লবণাক্ত ও বেশি লবণাক্ত সব এলাকাই জরিপের আওতায় আসবে।

শুমারি দলে থাকা বাঘ গবেষক ও জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণিবিদ্যা বিভাগের অধ্যাপক এম এ আজিজ বলেন, ব্যবস্থাপনা কার্যক্রমের জন্য বাঘের সংখ্যা জানা খুবই জরুরি। জরিপে যদি দেখা যায় বাঘের সংখ্যা বেড়েছে, তাহলে বোঝা যাবে ব্যবস্থাপনা ভালো আছে। যদি দেখা যায় বাঘের সংখ্যা কমেছে, তাহলে বুঝতে হবে ব্যবস্থাপনায় ঘাটতি আছে। তখন সে অনুযায়ী ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা যাবে। এক প্রশ্নের উত্তরে তিনি বলেন, তার ধারণা, সুন্দরবনে বাঘের সংখ্যা এবার বাড়বে।

ক্যামেরা ট্র্যাপিং পদ্ধতিতে সুন্দরবনে বাঘশুমারি হচ্ছে তৃতীয়বারের মতো। এর আগে ২০১৫ ও ২০১৮ সালে একই পদ্ধতিতে বাঘগণনা করা হয়েছিল। ২০১৫ সালের আগে পায়ের ছাপ দেখে শুমারি করা হতো। ২০১৮ সালের জরিপ অনুযায়ী সুন্দরবনের বাংলাদেশ অংশে বাঘ ছিল ১১৪টি। ২০১৫ সালে ছিল ১০৬টি।
