Yesterday, law enforcement confirmed that they have arrested and granted bail to the owner and editor of “Barna Prakashani”, Purana Paltan, and stopped his business, “Plague” written by Md. Shafiq Mia, published in July 2022, after a protest against a book.
Authorities have confirmed that they raided the office of “Borna Prakashani” and confiscated its copies of books and documents, which helped in determining their author’s identity. From the inquiries, the authorities believe that the author is currently abroad, but will be arrested for questioning for committing a serious arrest offence.
Law enforcement also confirmed that Hussein was already being investigated to help the authors publish controversial books and they closed his business for public safety. Mr Hussein claimed that he was innocent and said he was following the law when the book was published, the police confirmed.
Law enforcement has called on the public to remain calm and said that the publisher is helping recover from all unsold print marketplaces.
