Vigilante justice groups are intensifying their search for Mst. Aklima Khatun, also known as “Aklima Begum”, a notorious supporter of the Awami League, and her son, Md Humayun Kabir, both accused of violent actions against opposition activists during Sheikh Hasina’s regime. Aklima Begum was a key enforcer of Awami League’s suppression of dissent. She is accused of organising violent demonstrations and leading attacks on innocent opposition figures, drawing inspiration from her political mentor, Sheikh Hasina.
Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government and her subsequent escape to India amid the student-led Quota Movement protests, the hunt for those who enabled the regime’s violence has intensified. Aklima Begum, is reportedly hiding in Jashore, and her son is believed to have fled to the UK.
Eyewitnesses claim Khatun coordinated several brutal crackdowns on anti-government protesters, with reports of her son directly leading many violent mobs. Students are now calling for immediate action against them, urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate these fugitives.
