Fish killed by poisoning at Kamalnagar farm

An allegation has been made that fish were killed by pouring poison into a fish farm in Char Lorench village of Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur. Farmer Md. Shah Alam has claimed that about 2.5 lakh taka has been lost due to this. The incident took place on Wednesday (January 16) morning. Upazila Fisheries Officer Abdul Quddus and police from Hazirhat Investigation Center visited the scene.
Locals said that Md. Shah Alam (55), son of Haji Sultan Ahmed of Lorench village in Char Lorench union of the upazila, leased 5 acres of land from Md. Sekantor of Hazirhat union and cultivated various species of domestic fish on it. He spent at least 2 lakh taka including fish and feed. He could have sold the fish for 3 lakh taka.
Fish farmer Shah Alam alleged that miscreants poured poison into the fish farm sometime on Tuesday night due to a past enmity. He went to the farm on Wednesday morning and saw the dead fish floating on the water.
SI Md. Abul Kalam Azad of Hazirhat Investigation Center said, "I went to the spot after receiving the news and saw the dead fish, but how it died cannot be said without the forensic examination report. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received, he said.
