Gazette published declaring Chandraganj Union a municipality

A gazette has been published declaring Chandraganj Union Parishad of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila a municipality.

The matter was reported today from a reliable source. After learning about the matter, a wave of joy is spreading throughout the area.

Earlier, this gazette was published on Wednesday (November 22) through a notification issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives - Local Government Division, Municipal-2 Branch of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

According to the gazette sources, 2 Agrahayan 1424 Bangabhab/ 16 November 2017/ SRO No. 320 Act/2017.- The government, by virtue of sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Local Government (Municipality) Act 2009 (Act No. 58 of 2009), has expressed its intention to form Chandraganj Municipality by taking 13 mouzas in the rural area of Chandraganj under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

The mouza areas covered by the municipality are Amani Lakshmipur, Tairabnagar, Panchpara, Deopara, West Latifpur, Ramakrishnapur, Sheikhpura, Chhota Rashidpur, Ganipur, Rajapur, Ramchandra Pur, Basuduhita and South Dhanyapur.

It further states that, as per the provisions of sub-section (3) of Section 3, the concerned Union Parishad may raise written objections against the proposal within 1 month of the publication of the notification regarding the intention to declare an urban area.

Meanwhile, after the gazette announcement, there is a wave of joy among the people of Chandraganj area. Locals said that the formation of the municipality has further improved the quality of life in the area, including education, culture, business and commerce.

It is worth noting that Chandraganj Union was once known as an area with a high incidence of armed terrorism. Later, a police station was established to eradicate terrorism. Terrorism was eradicated with the efforts of the administration, journalists and locals. However, a large number of weapons of the terrorists were not recovered. The locals welcomed and congratulated the Bangladesh government and People's Leader Sheikh Hasina for declaring Chandraganj a municipality.
