Acting Chairman of BNP Tarek Rahman commented that many people including Hasina fled the country in the face of student uprising, but their ghosts are still sitting everywhere. He said that the friends of the fallen dictatorship can sit on the neck of the nation once again.
It should be remembered that tyranny should not rise again on the basis of their own chaos or disunity.
On Tuesday (5 November) afternoon at Munshi Meherullah Maidan (Town Hall Ground) in Jessore city, Tarek said these things while joining virtually in the memorial meeting organized by district BNP on the occasion of the sixth death anniversary of BNP national standing committee member and former minister Tariqul Islam.
Acting Chairman of BNP said, we have overthrown the fascist dictator Hasina government through the great revolution of the students. Many have fled the country including Hasina. But their companion-ghosts are still everywhere. They are trying to re-establish themselves by destabilizing the administration. It should be remembered that the friends of these fallen dictatorships can sit on the neck of the nation once again.
He said that the people of the country realized what could be the consequences of the fallen dictatorial fascists through the intense movement of the students on August 5. Therefore, the Bangladesh of the future should be free from exploitation, torture and discrimination. Everyone must work together to realize the aspirations and goals of the people's revolution. Remember there is no substitute for unity.
Urging those who cherish the ideals of nationalism, Tariq Rahman said that all misunderstandings should be ended and the country should be taken on the path of true democracy. People's right to vote and rice should be established. Just adding a few words to the constitution will not bring about reforms. In order to make reforms, first of all, people's right to vote must be ensured. For that purpose, BNP has presented 31-point reform proposal before the nation. BNP is working to implement that demand. You have to be united in fulfilling that demand. It should be remembered that tyranny should not rise again on the basis of their own chaos or disunity.
'Tariqul Islam never ran after abundance and wealth'
Noting that late Tariqul Islam devoted himself to the struggle for the liberation of mother, soil and people, Tariq Rahman said that he never ran after abundance and wealth. Today's new generation should learn from the political life of Tariqul Islam and its ethics. Who or who do politics as a tool for personal gain or money-making; Their fate was witnessed by the countrymen.
Even though the commemoration started at 3 o'clock, BNP leaders and workers started gathering in groups at Munshi Meherullah Maidan, the place of commemoration. The crowd spilled beyond the town hall grounds into the surrounding streets.
Acting chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman, connected virtually from London, said that the presence of thousands of people in today's memorial meeting proves how popular late Tariqul Islam was. Tariqul Islam did not compromise with ideals throughout his life. Tariqul Islam has been repeatedly imprisoned, attacked and prosecuted under the dictatorial Ershad regime and under the fascist and fallen dictator Hasina, under the One Eleven government. But he never deviated from his ideals. I don't have much experience working with late Tariqul Islam. Still, I learned from him how to do politics for the people in whatever time I got.
Tariq Rahman said that he has served many times as a minister of important ministries of the government. But still he did not forget about the roots. He was in constant touch with the grassroots people. I am also trying to learn from this quality of late Tariqul Islam and work with the grassroots. Because there is no substitute for this communication to get human love.
