The Maldives, former president jailed for 11 years
Former Maldives President Abdullah Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in prison for corruption and money laundering, and he was also fined US$5 million.
He has been charged with taking advantage from a private company, but it has denied the allegations.
Abdullah Yameen lost power in 2018, but announced that he would be a candidate from the Progressive Party in the Maldives presidential election next year (2023. In 2019, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined $5000,000,000,000, and he was kept under house arrest after he was in a state of confinement. However, he was released from captivity after a few months.
