Police accused of beating and injuring municipal employee

Lakshmipur:

Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Faruk Ahmed has been accused of beating and injuring Khorshed Alam, an employee of Ramganj Municipality in Lakshmipur.

He was beaten and injured in the city's warehouse premises on Saturday (November 25) afternoon.

Khorshed is a truck driver at Ramganj Municipality. Meanwhile, the 3rd and 4th class employees of the municipality have declared a strike in protest against the beating of Khorshed.

Zakir Hossain Helal, general secretary of the Laxmipur district of the Municipality Employees' Association, said that Khorshed Alam was returning from dumping garbage in the Balua Chaumuhani Bazar area in the morning when he got into a traffic jam in front of a food warehouse. At that time, SI Faruk Ahmed came from behind, pulled Khorshed out of the car and beat him up indiscriminately. At one point, when he fell unconscious, the police left him on the road. Later, local businessmen rescued him and admitted him to the hospital.

Injured Khorshed Alam said, "SI Faruk, wearing dark glasses, came to me in a drunken state and punched me 25 to 30 times for no reason. I have informed the mayor about this matter and I will file a case regarding this incident."

Khorshed Alam, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said, "I got stuck in a traffic jam due to road renovation work. Suddenly, the police officer honked his horn from behind, but I couldn't pull over due to the traffic jam. Because of that, he beat me up."

The accused, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ramganj Police Station, Faruk Ahmed, said, "Khorshed's truck did not have a looking glass. He ran over me without seeing me. We had an argument with him about this. The allegation of beating him is not true."
