Four party leaders are contesting for one seat!

The 11th National Parliament Election is going to be held on December 30. Symbols have already been allotted to the candidates. Campaigning has also started immediately after getting the symbols. Candidates nominated by various political parties, including independents, are conducting mass outreach with their workers and supporters.

Heavyweight leaders of various political parties are contesting elections from various constituencies across the country. However, there is one constituency that has created curiosity across the country. That is Dhaka-17 constituency.
The main leaders of four political parties are contesting this seat. Two of them are current members of parliament. The other two are former members of parliament. Various calculations are underway to determine who will be ahead in the race to enter parliament in the upcoming elections.

These four candidates are Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) Chief SM Abul Kalam Azad and Trinamool BNP President Barrister Nazmul Huda. Due to these four VIP candidates, Dhaka-17 constituency is now in the eyes of the entire country.

However, there are 6 other candidates for this seat.

Film actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruk, candidate of Awami League with the boat symbol, is contesting in this seat, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Basad candidate SM Ahsan Habib (Ladder), Progressive Democratic Party candidate Ali Haider (Tiger), Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Aminul Haque Talukder (Fan), Bikalpak Dhara Bangladesh candidate Lt. Col. Dr. (Retd.) AKM Saifur Rashid (Kula), Zaker Party candidate Kazi Md. Rashidul Hasan (Golapful) are contesting in the voting field.

It is worth noting that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was first elected in the 2001 election. Later, when Khaleda Zia vacated the seat, Major (Retd.) Kamrul Islam became MP in the by-election. JPA Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad was elected as the MP for this seat in the 2008 election. And in the last election of 2014, BNF's Abul Kalam Azad was elected on an Awami League ticket.
