Lakshmipur's only cricketer, Hasan Mahmud (Rabbi), is playing for Bangladesh in the Under-19 Asia Cup. This is the first time a cricketer from Lakshmipur has earned the honor of playing for Bangladesh's Under-19 team. Hasan Mahmud has been playing for Lakshmipur in school cricket, as well as in the age-based Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 teams with distinction. He is a fast bowler and is equally skilled with the bat. By now, people in the sports world of Lakshmipur have started calling Hasan Mahmud the Lakshmipur Express. Hasan Mahmud (Rabbi) is the son of Md. Faruk Hossain of Ward No. 6 of Banchanagar village of Lakshmipur Municipality.
Hasan Mahmud's local coaches Md. Ibrahim Khalil and Md. Monir Hossain said that no cricketer from Lakshmipur has ever had an opportunity to play for the Bangladesh team at any age. Hasan Mahmud is the only cricketer from Lakshmipur who is currently playing for the Bangladesh Under-19 team in the Asia Cup in Malaysia.
