Bangladesh's first film made in the Chakma language, 'My Bicycle-Mor Thengari', has been stuck in the censor board for 9 years. The film, directed by Aung Rakhine, failed to get censored for various reasons. The film will be screened today at the film exhibition that began in tribute to the Liberation War and martyrs.
A two-day film exhibition organized by Samgeet Cultural Complex has started at Paschim Panthapath Lake Circus from Sunday. The last day of this exhibition will be tomorrow, where Aung Rakhine's film will be shown. However, the director will not be present at the exhibition. He said, "I have always heard that the audience is interested in the film. But I could not show the film to everyone because I could not get a censor. I am not optimistic about the censor yet. I am not thinking about the censor anymore."‘
The word "thengari" in Chakma language means bicycle. The English name of the movie is My Bicycle. The story of the movie revolves around a Chakma young man named Kamal from a village in Paharghera. After failing to earn a living in the city, he returns to the village with a bicycle. He continues to earn a living by transporting people and goods on bicycles. About the movie, Aung Rakhine said, "We have no intention of releasing it commercially. However, if anyone is interested in holding a screening, we would like to screen the movie."‘
The event, which runs from 4 pm to 8 pm every day, will feature the short films 'Don't Panic! Organize' by Zafar Muhammad, 'The Sound is Loud' by Ivan Monowar, '35 July' by Elizabeth de Coster, 'Ichamati' by Habibur Rahman, and 'Fulbarir Saat Din' by Zaid Aziz and Farzana Bobby.
The last day's program will feature Farzana Zerin's 'The Valiant Martyr Shakeel', SK Shuvo's 'Dear Mother', Edit Dewan's 'Dream or Reality', Bratya Amin's 'Company Country' and 'I Will Die as a Human'.
