1 arrested with OMS rice in Noakhali

The Detective Branch (DB) of Noakhali Municipality seized 29 sacks of government OMS rice during a raid at Hakim Departmental Store in Dutterhat Bazar, Ward No. 6, Noakhali Municipality. Abdul Hakim (47), the owner of the store, was arrested for keeping government rice in his store and selling it.

The raid was carried out in Dutterhat Bazaar on Tuesday night.

The arrested Abdul Hakim is the son of Abdur Rashid of Daiya Mia's house in Gopai area of Ward No. 6 of the municipality.

Police said that Abdul Hakim, the owner of the shop, was selling government-allocated OMS rice at the Hakim Department Store in Dutterhat Bazar. Based on such information, a team of detective police raided his shop on Tuesday night. During this, 16 sacks and 13 more sacks of government rice that had been changed were found in the shop. 1,130 kg of government rice was seized from the sacks and the shop owner, Abdul Hakim, was arrested.

District Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazim Uddin Ahmed said that the police have filed a case under the Special Powers Act against businessman Abdul Hakim at Sudharam Model Police Station in connection with the seizure of government rice. He was sent to the district jail by a judicial court on Wednesday afternoon.
