Lakshmipur: A ship loaded with stones that sank in the Meghna River in Ramgati, Lakshmipur, has not been recovered even after 12 days.

STC Shipping Lines Limited General Manager (Operations) Md. Lokman Hossain confirmed that the ship could not be recovered as of Saturday (November 18) morning.

Earlier, on Monday, November 6, at around 3:30 am, the STC Shipping Lines Limited's ship MV Alo Micil (M 13087) carrying stones worth Tk 1.5 crore sank in the Boyarchar area of the Meghna River in Ramgati. A general diary (GD) was filed with Ramgati Police Station the next day, Tuesday, November 7. Its number is 252.

Authorities fear a loss of 50 to 60 million taka if the ship cannot be salvaged.

According to police and general diary sources, on Sunday, November 5, the ship departed from Patenga, Chittagong, carrying 2,000 metric tons of foreign stones for Pagla, Narayanganj. On the way, when it reached the Boyarchar area of Ramgati, the ship sank with the stones and got stuck. Despite many attempts, it was not possible to rescue it. At that time, the water in the river decreased during the low tide. Due to insufficient water, the middle part of the ship sank under the weight of the stones. Due to this, water entered inside. Due to which, the rescue of the ship became uncertain.

STC Shipping Lines Limited MD Engineer Mohammad Shahidul Islam said, "It was not possible to salvage the ship. In the current situation, there is no capacity to salvage the ship. This will cause a loss of about 50 million taka. Even if it is salvaged, it will cost about 10 million taka."

Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Iqbal Hossain confirmed that a GD has been filed with the police station regarding the ship sinking.
