Lakshmipur:
Seven people, including six from the same family, were killed when a truck hit them in Lakshmipur. The accident occurred at 5 am on Wednesday (January 23) in the Ratanpur area of the Begumganj-Lakshmipur road.
The deceased were identified as Shah Alam, Nasima Akhter, Rokeya Begum, Shamshun Nahar, Rubel, Amit, and autorickshaw driver Nuru, all of whom were passengers of the same family. All of them are residents of Basu Dhuhita area of Chandraganj union in Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
The relatives of the deceased said that Chhatra League activist Nadim Mahmud Antar, son of the deceased Shah Alam, was hacked and injured by miscreants in the Sadarghar area of Lakshmipur on Tuesday (January 22) night. He was rescued and admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital in an injured condition. His family members were going to the hospital to see the injured Nadim. On the way, a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Ratanpur area of the Begumganj-Lakshmipur road hit the auto-rickshaw and overturned on the side of the road. At that time, 7 people, including 6 members of the same family, were killed.
Lakshmipur Fire Service Deputy Director Md. Abdullah confirmed the death of seven people in the truck-autorickshaw collision.
Chandraganj Highway Police Outpost Inspector Shahjahan Khan said the bodies are being recovered from the scene. After recovery, they will be sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
