Two drug dealers in Lakshmipur sentenced to 14 years in prison

A court has sentenced two drug traffickers arrested with 16 grams of marijuana in Lakshmipur to seven years in prison each.

At the same time, they have been ordered to pay a fine of 10,000 taka and, in default, to serve another year in prison.

Lakshmipur District and Sessions Judge Md. Rahibul Islam gave the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. Public Prosecutor (PP) of Lakshmipur Judge Court Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter.

Jasim Uddin said, "The charges against the accused have been proven in court. The court has sentenced them to seven years in prison. The accused were not present in court during the verdict. They are absconding after going out on bail."

Convicted Kamrul Hasan is the son of Marfat Ulya of Rajibpur area of Lakshmipur township and Main Uddin is the son of Muktar Hossain of Ramchandrapur village of Shashidal union of Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla.

According to the complaint source, on the night of October 9, 2021, Kamrul and Main were staying on Kalibazar Road in Matlabpur village of Parbatinagar union of Sadar upazila with drugs. Based on a secret tip-off, a team of district detective police arrested them from the spot. During this, 8 kg of ganja was recovered from them.

Later, police recovered another 8 kg of marijuana from the rented house of the detainee in the South Majupur area of Laxmipur municipality town of Main. Detective Police SI Jahangir Alam filed a case with Sadar Model Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident.

On November 15 of the same year, the investigating officer of the case and Sub-Inspector (SI) of the District Detective Police, Maqbul Hossain, filed a chargesheet against Kamrul and Main in the court. After a long hearing and taking the testimony of witnesses, the court sentenced them to imprisonment.
