The franchise, which was owned by Lanka Group, has been acquired by the Bangladeshi company Imperial Sports Group. The franchise will play under the new name Dambulla Thunder in the upcoming season. The two leaders of Imperial Sports Group, Tamim Rahman and Golam Rakib, have already signed the agreement and taken ownership of the team.

The franchise started its journey as Dambulla Vikings in 2020. The following year, it changed its name to Giants franchise. In the last two seasons, they have changed ownership and played as Dambulla Aura. Despite being at the bottom of the points table in their first season, the team reached the final last season. However, they lost to Kandy in the final.
