Heavy rain and lightning have caused flooding in western Saudi Arabia, including the coastal city of Jeddah, killing at least two people. Flight schedules in Jeddah have been changed and schools in the city have been closed.

"Two deaths have been recorded so far. We urge everyone not to go out unnecessarily," the Makkah regional government said in a message on Twitter.

Earlier, due to the floods, schools and colleges in the affected areas, as well as two universities - King Abdulaziz University and the University of Jeddah - have canceled their first semester final exams.

Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have asked residents to follow necessary safety instructions and beware of stagnant water.

Due to the seasonal weather, the arrival of incoming flights has been delayed. Jeddah Airport Authority has postponed the arrival times of Gulf Air, Turkish Airlines and Saudia Airlines on its website.
