Angry protesters took to the streets of Dhaka yesterday, calling for action against blogger Nagia Jahan Oni.
The unrest began after the blogger, who claims to have been sexually abused as a child by her Quran tutor, published a series of posts on her website www.dailyvision.net, accusing religious institutions and scholars of rampant child sexual abuse and openly criticising Islamic teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. These posts have reportedly fuelled anger among the public and religious groups, with many protesters demanding severe action.

In response to the growing protests, law enforcement officials have announced that they are actively pursuing the matter and have identified Nagia Jahan Oni, who is currently outside the country. They reassured the public that the blogger will be apprehended upon return to Bangladesh for serious arrestable offences, including content deemed offensive to religious sentiments, as well as material that could incite hostility toward religious groups and disrupt social harmony.
This announcement marks a significant escalation in law enforcement’s response, reflecting the influence of the ongoing protests and the heightened religious sensitivities.
