Ignoring police obstruction in Ramganj, Laxmipur, a rally was held at the initiative of the Ramganj Upazila of the nationalist party BNP to protest against the increase in fuel prices, high fares in transportation, extreme rise in commodity prices, and the killing of Nur Alam and Abdur Rahim of Bhola and Shaon of Narayanganj, who were killed in police firing during a peaceful BNP procession across the country.

The protest rally was held in front of the bus building of former BNP MP Nazim Uddin Ahmed of Bhadur Union on the morning of September 8 (Thursday). The rally was chaired by Upazila BNP President Nazim Uddin Ahmed, and moderated by General Secretary VP Abdur Rahim and VP Bahar, with Lakshmipur District BNP senior member Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan speaking as the chief guest.

Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Joint Convener Harunur Rashid, Municipal BNP Convener Zakir Hossain Molla, Upazila BNP Vice President Monir Ahmed Tofadar, Municipal Member Secretary Alamgir Hossain, District BNP Member Tofail Ahmed, Municipal BNP Senior Joint Convener Advocate Tofazzal Hossain Bachchu, District Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Amjad Hossain Miyaji, Upazila Chhatra Dal President Zahir Raihan Babu and others spoke at the rally. Thousands of leaders and activists including leaders of Upazila BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Sramik Dal, Krishak Dal, Tanti Dal and various associate organizations were present at the time.
