Faridpur ban violation, jail sentence

A mobile court has sentenced a fisherman to one year in prison under Section 5(1) of the Fisheries Conservation Act, 1950, for illegally catching mother Hilsa in the Padma-Arial Khan River of Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur.

After conducting the drive overnight on Wednesday (October 12), Sadarpur Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md. Ahsan Mahmud conducted a mobile court drive on the Russell River in the morning.

The convicted accused is Bablu Fakir (52), son of the late Moksed Fakir of Hafez Kandi village in Charnasirpur union.

During the operation, the Executive Magistrate seized 5,000 meters of current net and destroyed it by burning it. Upazila Fisheries Officer SM Mahmudul Hasan was present at the time.
