Madrasa teacher arrested for sexually harassing student

Police have arrested Imam Hossain, a teacher at Nandanpur Kaderia Dakhil Madrasa in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila, on charges of sexually harassing two fifth and eighth grade students.

He was arrested from the madrasa on Saturday (October 28) afternoon.

The victim students and their guardians complained that the teacher Imam used to give private lessons on agriculture to the madrasa students. After the private lessons, the teacher often called the students to a room and sexually harassed them multiple times. He also tried to sexually harass the students by offering free private lessons.

The female students who were victims of sexual harassment have also filed written complaints with the madrasa superintendent twice. Later, the madrasa superintendent Atiqur Rahman issued two show-cause notices to the accused teacher Imam.

Students, parents, and locals protested at the madrasa premises at noon, demanding justice for the teacher accused in the incident.

Syed Abul Kashem, president of the institution's managing committee, said that there are multiple allegations against the accused teacher that he sexually harassed female students at different times. The teacher, on the decision of the managing committee, has handed over the teacher Imam to the police.

Lokman Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station, said the accused teacher has been arrested. Now, action will be taken as per the law.
