Bail denied to accused in Shahid Kanya rape case, DNA test allowed

The court has rejected the bail of the accused in the controversial Patuakhali Shahidkanya rape case. At the same time, the court has allowed a DNA test of the accused teenager.

 

Judge Nilufar Shirin of the Patuakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal gave the order on Sunday.

 

The tribunal's Public Prosecutor (PP) Md. Ruhul Amin Sikder confirmed the order. The hearing has been rescheduled for May 28.

 

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Dumki Police Station Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Rafiqul Islam, applied to the court to conduct a DNA test of the accused Imran.

 

The investigating officer of the case, Md. Rafiqul Islam, told Jugantor that the court has given permission for a DNA test of one of the accused; but we have not received a copy of the order yet. Once we receive the copy, necessary action will be taken.

 

It is worth mentioning that on the evening of March 18, a teenager was gang-raped while returning to her grandmother's Algi village in the same union after visiting the grave of her father, who was martyred in the July Movement, in Ward No. 5 of Pangasia Union in Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali. Later, on April 26 at 9 pm, the teenager committed suicide at house No. B/70 on Road No. 6 of Shekhertek, Dhaka.
